Lagging and Wading (through to the heart of darkness?)

So how many people can say they’ve crossed the Greenwich meridian and the equateur (twice) on a single out-bound flight? I’ve just arrived in Bukavu—the single most beautiful place in Africa (seriously, I’ll post some pictures)—after the most grueling flight of my life… Vancouver to heathrow to Jo’burgh to Kinshasa to Kananga to Bukavu…sort of round about, but the country office wanted to run me through an orientation before heading out to paradise. I made it through the Kinshasa airport unmolested, however, and jumped straight into things. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve just been hired by the International Rescue Committee to manage their emergency response programme in South Kivu. Based in Bukavu, I’ll be coordinating the Rapid Response mechanism across the entire province…pretty big, pretty daunting

more when I’ve finished reading the 600 pages of orientation documents
(hey has anyone seen the Georgia Straight article? Any good? I haven’t seen it, but my boss has…says we need to talk about ‘Media Policy’…)
